During its festivities, Cuenca is full of unique tourist experiences.

Cuenca is ready to celebrate its 202 years of Independence, so the Municipal Corporation has prepared a series of cultural, artistic, gastronomic, and entertainment activities.

In the Municipal Tourism Foundation, our goal is that visitors enjoy the best version of the “Athens of Ecuador”, so we would like to recommend a range of activities, always focused on you enjoying new experiences.

One of them is a visit to the city’s rooftops. These spaces have gained notoriety for the diversity of services that are offered on the terraces of the heritage houses located in the historic center. Cafeterias, restaurants, bars, and privileged views of the New Cathedral are the main attraction of these beautiful places for city leisure.

But when it comes to astonishing panoramic views of the city, the renovated “Mirador de Turi” is probably unbeatable. Its more than 2,500 square feet of balcony will grant you the best view of the city, right next to a wide range of the finest cultural, gastronomic, and entertainment establishments. Add to it a new feature: the viewpoint enabled on the two terraces of the central church of Turi.

From November 2nd to 5th, the reopened Todosantos Heritage Complex will be offering free guided tours of the church, choir, and bell tower. From the top of the church tower, visitors will be able to enjoy a 360° view of the city. The complex also has a restaurant next to the convent and a cafeteria on the terrace/viewpoint, facing the Tomebamba River.

The “Route of the Posadas in San Sebastian” is another option to enjoy the festivities of Cuenca. In this experience, visitors can immerse themselves in the stories and legends that marked the life of the ancient city of Cuenca, deep in the neighborhood of San Sebastian, where they can also discover the scenes of great civil battles, tragic love stories, and the birthplace of great artists and sculptors. All this through theatrical, musical, and gastronomic exhibitions.

During Cuenca’s festivities, visiting the trading center will be like entering a world full of joy, color, and anecdotes of the daily life of its people. In the marketplace, you will find all kinds of agricultural products and typical food from Cuenca. You will also be able to see women healers practicing the traditional “limpia” (cleanse) for the “bad wind” and “evil eye.”

Another very good option to get to know the cultural and artistic richness of Cuenca is to visit the interesting and interactive museums of the city. The most renowned ones are the Museum of Modern Art, the Remigio Crespo, the Old Cathedral, and the Economuseo Casa del Sombrero, among others.

In line with the festive activities, the Municipal Public Company of Economic Development of Cuenca (EDEC EP) will hold the fair “Cuenca World City of Crafts” from November 3rd to 6th, with high-quality craftsmanship for all tastes. From 10 AM to 7 PM, more than 50 masters from Cuenca will be present at the Plaza del Portal Artesanal de Cuenca to welcome tourists of all origins and backgrounds.

From November 1st to 6th, on Paseo Tres de Noviembre Avenue, the Inter-American Center of Crafts and Popular Arts (CIDAP) will hold the 20th edition of the Crafts Festival of the Americas (FAAM) with the participation of 180 artisans from India, Colombia, Peru, Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, and Ecuador.

The “Cuenca Vive el Arte” Fair will be held at the Miraflores Park from October 28th to November 6th, and the “Fuentes Gasca Brothers Circus” will be presenting their show POP AND ROCK CIRCUS.

The exhibition “Sensitive Machines” is another great option that this year the Cuenca Biennial offers visitors. Seventy-nine pieces by renowned creators, in different languages and formats (some received as prizes, others acquired, and others donated) will be on display at the Biennial House, the Botanical Garden, and the Mayor’s Gallery for the enjoyment of the whole family.

Fifteen minutes from the Historic Center of the city, next to the parish of Baños, there are thermal waters that flow from a volcanic fault, around which numerous spas, health resorts, and lodging establishments have been built. They have special offers and incentives for visitors during November.

The surroundings of the city have several options for extreme and adventure sports such as canopy, canyoning, mountain climbing, horseback riding, and biking. All of these are complemented by trekking and running activities in the mountains of Monjas, Guagualzhumi, Huizhil, Pachamama, and Cabeza de Pez.

The walks through the city are now much livelier and more colorful. Even better if you go through El Barranco, because, in addition to getting to appreciate the beauty of the hanging houses, during this season the bridges that cross the Tomebamba River are “dressed in flowers”. Such decorated structures become the ideal postcard to share on your social networks, and these holidays are the perfect occasion to enjoy the landscaping of the Juana de Oro, Todos Santos, El Septenario, Otorongo, and El Vado bridges.

Another great alternative to celebrate this season is to dance and vibrate to the beat of great world music icons such as Fonseca and Gente de Zona (November 2nd at the Alejandro Serrano Aguilar Stadium) or Reik and Alex Ubago, who will be performing to liven up and celebrate Cuenca’s independence festivities during this month.

In addition to all this, Cuenca offers visitors a wide range of activities for entertainment. Restaurants, bars, nightclubs, cultural and artistic spaces in Calle Larga, the Historic Center, Luis Moreno Mora, Puertas del Sol, and many more are the ideal places for enjoyable experiences at nightfall. Have fun in the establishments that display the “Cuenca Biosegura y Sostenible” emblem.

You can access these and other experiences by consulting our website www.visitcuencaecuador.com.ec or, more personally, by requesting guides, maps, a calendar of festivities, and others via WhatsApp at 0991752155.

Welcome to Cuenca, the best-kept secret in the Andes!
