CUENCA SUCCEEDS AS HOST CITY OF THE “V International Event Planners Summit – Ecuador Edition”

Cuenca, during the week of September 19 to 23, 2022, was the setting for several activities within the framework of the “V International Event Planners Summit – Ecuador Edition”. Cuenca was chosen as the venue for this international summit with the purpose of positioning it as a wedding destination, to promote romance tourism and reactivate the wedding and event industry.

Event Planners is a brand that was born in Lima, Peru in 2016 with the purpose of training event organizers and for 4 years it has held International summits that bring together the community of Latin American event organizers. The brand is now entering Ecuador, and the city of Cuenca was selected as the venue for this fifth edition in which several companies from Cuenca, the country and Peru have joined as suppliers of this event. The Mayor’s Office of Cuenca and its Municipal Tourism Foundation joined forces to promote this international summit, which is of special importance for the reactivation of events in the city.

On Monday, September 19, the press conference began at the Municipal Tourism Foundation for Cuenca, where its director, María Angélica León, stated that “the city offers itself as a destination for weddings and events and we hope that the International Event Planners Summit is institutionalized as a city event, given that it has the necessary conditions and characteristics for it”.

There were also pre-summit classes on trends in table decoration, flower arrangements and balloons that were taught by professionals Andrea Fernández from Costa Rica and Anggelo Boggio from Peru, on Tuesday, September 20, in the Escuela Central auditorium.

On September 21, the inauguration of the “V International Event Planners Summit – Ecuador Edition” took place. The welcome was given by the mayor of the city, Pedro Palacios Ullauri, who congratulated the organizers for bringing an event like this to Cuenca. Rosa Cusirramos, Director of Event Planners Latin America, for her part, expressed that “the city has responded very well with the presence of the brand and its proposal for the events industry and associated branches such as tourism; once the brand has entered the country, an agenda of training courses associated with events and tourism comes with it. This space also provided the opportunity to present the first edition of the Event Planners Latin America magazine, a publication with articles, advice and a list of suppliers for event organizers”. The inauguration was in charge of Rodolfo Hugo Castro, consul of Peru in the city of Cuenca, who highlighted the trajectory of the Event Planners brand in the neighboring country and the importance of its expansion to a country like Ecuador.

A total of 15 speakers from Peru, Costa Rica and Ecuador gave presentations related to the event industry and its relationship with others such as: tourism, gastronomy, lodging, with an emphasis on wedding destinations. These conferences were held for two days, September 21 and 22 at the Sucre Theater.

On the evening of September 21, an international catwalk was presented in the courtyard of the Court of Justice, where renowned models from the city and the country paraded bridal and evening gowns from the “Flores del Alba” collection by renowned Peruvian designer José Zafra. At the intermission, the casual suits by the designer Ángeles Rojas from Loja. This great night closed with the “Heroica” collection and its haute couture bridal and evening gowns, by local designer Francisco Vanegas. Leyla Espinoza, Miss Ecuador 2020, paraded on this catwalk.

The closing event was on the night of September 22, where recognitions were given by Event Planners Peru, to María Angélica León and Daniela Armijos from Cuenca; for their contributions in development and reactivation of event and tourism industries in the city of Cuenca, through the Event Planners Ecuador Summit. This space ended with the activation of sponsoring brands and a great night in Cuenca, with the presentation of: typical dances of the city, a “banda de pueblo” (band that plays traditional local music) and fireworks to bid farewell to the attendees.

On September 23, a scouting process was carried out for venues for weddings and events with a group of Wedding Planners, wedding organizers, from different cities in Ecuador and Peru who attended the summit, with the aim of promoting destination weddings in the city of Cuenca.

 “This V International Event Planners Summit – Ecuador Edition, was attended by 300 people from different parts of the country and Peru, as well as the streaming broadcast for Latin America. The main objective was to promote the historic center of Cuenca as a setting for weddings; for this reason, all the events associated with the summit were held in that space. A total of 55 supplier brands related to the event and tourism industries from Guayaquil, Loja, Cuenca and Lima joined as sponsors of this international event”; emphasized Daniela Armijos, representative of Event Planners in Ecuador.

This project began in the city of Lima with 4 partners: Rosa Cusirramos from Lima – Peru, Daniela Trelles from Loja – Ecuador, Andrea Fernández from Costa Rica and Daniela Armijos from Cuenca – Ecuador.
