On December 1, 1999, the General Assembly of UNESCO proclaimed the city of Cuenca a World Heritage Site under the World Heritage Convention. For more than two decades the city has been celebrating this honor, which fills us with pride and is a great cause for celebration.
The proclamation of World Heritage aims to preserve the urban and architectural ensemble of Cuenca – which includes more than 5,000 heritage properties – as well as its landscape and environment.
