About three years had to pass for the doors of the emblematic Museum of the Concepts to be opened again. On April 11, 2023, the Foundation Museum of the Concepts with the support of the University of Cuenca, various organizations and individuals, welcomed dozens of visitors who came to witness the reopening of this unique place in the city.
For this important occasion, the exhibition called“Ora et labora” (pray and work) was launched, a museographic proposal whose main focus is on the work that the Conceptionist Sisters have carried out throughout the centuries inside the convent.

We must remember that the Monastery of the Conceptas is the first female monastery of the city, founded on June 03, 1599; it arises with the intention of offering young women (and girls in some cases) the possibility of entering religious life.
“We have tried to highlight the role of women within the walls of the Monastery that had an impact outside, in the city. We have found that they were creators, restorers, conservators of works of art. They were cooks, embroiderers, and they held and promoted parties,” explained Macarena Montes, who was in charge of the museum exhibition
