WHAT DID THE AUGUST 10th HOLIDAY LEAVE FOR CUENCA?

On the last August 10 holiday, 49,243 tourists visited Cuenca – a diverse, complete, and authentic destination that offers interactive activities to enjoy alone, as a couple, or with the family, in a friendly, safe and reliable environment.

· The most visited outdoor location during the holiday was the National Park, which received 2,191 tourists who came to enjoy its lagoons, paramo, and hiking trails.

· From August 8th to 14th, 12,800 visitors enjoyed the activities held to celebrate the anniversary of ‘Mercado 10 de Agosto.’ In the last two of the seven days alone, 3,800 people came to the marketplace to enjoy a great Gastronomic Festival.

· During the holiday, the Municipal Museums were open to the public during extended hours. A total of 5,308 tourists visited and enjoyed the exhibits at the Planetarium, the Remigio Crespo Tora Municipal Museum, the Municipal Museum of Modern Art, the Casa del Sombrero Municipal Economuseum, and the Old Cathedral.

· Ceramics, pottery, music, and colors took over the Plaza del Portal Artesanal on Friday, August 12th, when approximately 500 people and groups (coming and going) enjoyed the Artisan Marathon.

· The Double-decker Bus was ridden by 3,904 tourists from all over the country, who did not miss the opportunity to come on the holiday and take the tour of Cuenca. The tours departed from the historic center to the Mirador de Turi, one of the highest points of the city.

· Walking Tours were another of the preferred options for touring Cuenca during the August 10th holiday. A total of 50 tourists from Guayaquil, Quito, Argentina, and Asia walked the three routes, led by guides trained by the Municipal Tourism Foundation and the Association of Professional Guides of Austro.

· During the three-day holiday, the Tourist Information Office (ITUR) provided service to 160 people who requested information on the different tourist experiences available in the city.

· In total, the hotel sector reached an occupancy rate of 93%, with lodging revenues of US$7,879,000.

· Additionally, many groups of friends visited the viewpoints of El Calvario, Icto Cruz, El Boquerón, and Jalshi de Nulti to enjoy incredible panoramic views of the city (soon the Mirador de Turi will also be available).

· As always, the Monjas, Guagualzhumi, Huizhil, Pachamama, and Cabeza de Pez hills were an excellent choice for adventure sports such as canopy, canyoning, mountain climbing, horseback riding, and biking. Thanks to the “Cuenca Adventure City” project, these areas now have proper signage and services.

· Gastronomy is definitely one of the greatest attractions of Cuenca. Currently, the city offers a wide variety of dishes and venues for the enjoyment of all visitors, from traditional restaurants and markets to the now famous rooftops – beautifully equipped with all the modern comforts in the old terraces of the colonial houses of the city center.
