Cuenca Lights Up On Christmas

Every neighborhood in the city lights up with Christmas spirit. Angels, stars, lights and balloons are just a few of the Christmas decorations in Cuenca.

The scale of the decorations make the assembly of the pieces a process of weeks, however, the work pays off when thousands of tourists arrive to admire the impressive beauty of it all. This year, the largest Christmas tree in the country can be seen Cuenca, with 42 meters high and a metal structure with 22,000 lights; it is sight to behold.

Next to the tree stands out a massive “nacimiento” (nativity scene) of 7 meters high; both are located at Miraflores Park, which is the largest Christmas park in Ecuador. In addition, this year, 7 new large light figures will be added to the 22 of previous years. There are more than 1,700,000 LED light points, 750 Christmas decorations, 500 renovated light figures and 26,000 meters of LED strip lights throughout the city.

Remember to take all the routes that light up the city with your family; it will make for a magical Christmas.

You can admire the light figures from 6:30 p.m. to midnight, until January 6.
