The craft of smelting and forging iron began to develop in Cuenca in colonial times, at the very avenue Huayna Capac in the neighborhood of Las Herrerías, an area of great artisan tradition located southeast of the city. There you will discover a square where the sculpture of the god Vulcano stands as a tribute to the fire artisans who preserve this tradition.

Humberto Guerra es uno de los últimos artesanos que labora este oficio con pasión forjando el hierro en su taller El Herrero. En tu visita podrás observar de cerca el trabajo de este artista. Su sala de exhibición y ventas ofrece todo tipo de objetos decorativos, algunos tradicionales como las cruces, y otros novedosos como las bicicletas-maceteros.
